2014

ADOPT A WARRIOR: For the first time in the history of our project, a corporate office adopted one of our Wounded Warriors in treatment and recovery at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, for Christmas! The Wounded Warrior Family selected for adoption was Sergeant (SGT) Josh Sislo, his lovely wife, Kristen, and their ten-month old baby boy, Jase. The donors, from the Program Control Office of CenturyLink in Herndon, VA, asked what Sergeant Sislo’s family would like for Christmas, and they replied “We would really love to get some clothes, diapers and some toys (mostly educational) for Jase.” The donors provided that and more to PROJECT SOLDIERS & SKINS on the morning of December 16th, 2014.

2012

PARATRIATHLON: Sponsor Mike Lenhart, Founder and President of The Getting2Tri Foundation, joined forces with PROJECT SOLDIERS & SKINS to execute a paratriathlon training camp for Wounded Warriors from across the United States. G2T uses the sports’ disciplines of swimming, cycling, running, racing wheelchair, and hand-cycle as the vehicles for integrating individuals with physical disabilities into their local communities. The training camp, fully-funded by a G2T grant and donors, was held at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, Georgia, 15-17 March 2012.

GIFT CERTIFICATES: Before the Final Football Game of the 2011 Season, PROJECT SOLDIERS & SKINS multi-year supporter James Lieto raised ~$700 in donations from Veterans and other Project Supporters at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, for his high school volunteer project. His donation was converted into 12 gift certificates worth $50 each and given to Wounded Warriors at the Fort Belvoir Warrior Transition Unit. Gift certificates were from Target and Giant and donated to assist new Wounded Warriors and their Families just arriving at Fort Belvoir. Thank you, James Lieto!

TAILGATE: Before the Final Football Game of the 2010 Season—Washington Redskins vs. New York Giants, 2 January 2010—PROJECT SOLDIERS & SKINS hosted a free tailgate for Wounded Warriors and Families from Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Sponsor Andy Macias of Andy’s Tailgate Cruiser donated the use of his full equipment set of tents, grills, tables, and chairs; Project Leaders donated, prepared, and served a hearty barbeque meal; the Warrior Transition Brigade provided the bus to and from FEDEX Field; and most importantly, Donors generously provided 30 tickets and 10 parking passes!

MOTORCYCLE RALLY: Before the Washington Redskins vs. Denver Broncos Game, 15 November 2009—PROJECT SOLDIERS & SKINS hosted a motorcycle rally, send-off, and escort for 30 Wounded Warriors and Families with tickets from our generous Donors. Sponsor Army Specialist Jon “Doc” Kromer, State Coordinator of Warriors’ Watch Riders, and motorcycle escorts from Northern Virginia, rallied at Walter Reed with Project Leaders, and then provided motorcycle escort from the front and rear—with American Flags Waiving—to the two vans provided by the Warrior Transition Brigade all the way to FEDEX Field!
